Jonathan

April 14, 2026 - Music-filled years of practice, performance, and dedication have led to a major state honor for Mammoth Spring High School Senior Jonathan Morris, who has been selected as a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Musical Excellence, presented by Play it Again, Arkansas!

The Governor’s Award for Musical Excellence recognizes 100 outstanding seniors across the state each year who show dedication, talent, and commitment to music. The award highlights student musicians who are the best of the best in performance and give back to their music program.

Director of Bands, Blake LaRue, said Morris has earned the recognition because of his daily effort to become a better musician.

“Jonathan shows up every day and puts in the work,” LaRue said. “He’s dependable, he improves constantly, and he takes real pride in what he does. This recognition is well deserved.”

Morris explained this was one of the best honors of his musical career.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity from the governor, and for everyone who has supported me throughout high school,” Morris said. “Music has been a big part of my life, and I’m thankful for this honor.”

Morris is a first-chair trumpet player in the Mammoth Spring Band. He plans to attend Arkansas State University this fall.
